This airport, a popular gateway for Caribbean and Latin American cruises, experiences a significant number of lost bags, with approximately 306 bags lost per million flights, equating to about 5.5 bags per 1000 passengers.
Chicago O’Hare International Airport, a bustling US hub with 80 million passengers in 2024, secured the second spot on the list of airports with baggage issues. Surprisingly, Singapore’s Changi Airport, renowned for its excellence and voted the world’s best airport multiple times, ranked third in baggage mishandling incidents, serving a whopping 67 million passengers annually.
The study analyzed passenger volume and online searches for “lost and found services” to determine the rankings, adjusting the results to reflect searches per million passengers. A spokesperson for Arka highlighted the varying struggles airports face when it comes to baggage handling.
To minimize the risk of lost luggage, travelers can take proactive measures. Adding a durable baggage ID tag with essential contact information can facilitate the return of lost bags. Removing extra straps and avoiding tying ribbons to suitcases can prevent baggage entanglements during transit, reducing the likelihood of misplacement.
Taking a photo of your bag before checking it in can aid in accurately identifying your luggage in case of loss. Additionally, removing old baggage stickers from previous flights can prevent confusion during automated scanning processes, potentially averting manual handling delays that may lead to missed flights.
While no one wants to experience the frustration of lost baggage, implementing these preventative measures can significantly reduce the likelihood of encountering such travel setbacks.
