India’s trade scenario showed promising growth in the period of April-July 2025, with cumulative exports of merchandise and services reaching US$ 277.63 billion, reflecting a 5.23% increase compared to the same period in 2024. The Ministry of Commerce & Industry reported that the cumulative value of merchandise exports during this period was US$ 149.20 billion, indicating a positive growth rate of 3.07%. Non-Petroleum exports also saw a significant surge, reaching US$ 127.46 billion.
Key drivers of this export surge included Engineering Goods, Electronic Goods, Gems & Jewellery, Drugs & Pharmaceuticals, and Organic & Inorganic Chemicals. Engineering Goods exports alone spiked by 13.75%, reaching US$ 10.43 billion in July 2025, while Electronic Goods exports surged by 33.89% to US$ 3.77 billion. Gems & Jewellery, Drugs & Pharmaceuticals, and Organic & Inorganic Chemicals also experienced notable growth rates during this period.
On a monthly basis, India’s total exports for July 2025 were estimated at US$ 68.27 billion, marking a 4.52% increase over July 2024. The country’s imports for the same month amounted to US$ 79.99 billion, showing a growth rate of 6.07% compared to July 2024.
Merchandise trade data revealed that in July 2025, India exported goods worth US$ 37.24 billion while importing goods worth US$ 64.59 billion. The positive trade balance for this month stood at -11.72 billion, indicating a slight increase from the previous year.
Furthermore, during April-July 2025, India’s merchandise exports reached US$ 149.20 billion, with imports totaling US$ 244.01 billion. The trade balance for this period was -94.80 billion, slightly wider than the previous year.
It was noted that the country’s services sector also played a crucial role in bolstering exports, with estimated service exports of US$ 31.03 billion and imports of US$ 15.40 billion in July 2025. For the period of April-July 2025, service exports were valued at US$ 128.43 billion, while service imports stood at US$ 64.90 billion, resulting in a services trade surplus of US$ 63.53 billion.
India’s export performance in July 2025 was driven by a diverse range of products, with notable growth seen in exports of Other Cereals, Coffee, Electronic Goods, and various other categories. However, certain imports like Pulses, Leather Products, Newsprint, and Coal saw a decline during this period.
Looking at trade destinations, the top five countries that experienced positive growth in imports from India in July 2025 were the USA, United Arab Emirates, China, Spain, and Hong Kong. Similarly, for April-July 2025, the USA, China, United Arab Emirates, Kenya, and Germany were the leading countries showing increased imports from India.
