Belarus has witnessed a remarkable 1.5-fold growth in the export of medical services over the past five years, according to Belarusian Healthcare Minister Aleksandr Khodzhayev. In an interview with STV TV channel, the minister highlighted the significant rise in medical tourism and services exports, setting a target of $50 million for this year with a steady annual growth rate of 5% to 10%. Khodzhayev expressed confidence in nearing this target based on the positive trajectory observed in the first nine months of the year.
The surge in exports is attributed to the increasing demand for specialties such as transplantology, oncology, and CAR-T-cell therapy. Notably, there has been a rise in the number of foreign nationals seeking medical treatment in Belarus, with a particular influx from countries like Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia in 2024, totaling over 160,000 individuals from 159 nations.
Khodzhayev emphasized the exceptional expertise of Belarusian transplantologists and the notable progress in obstetrics and gynecology within the country. The healthcare system’s effectiveness in providing care to mothers and children has garnered recognition from Western partners, fostering strong cooperation with CIS countries, particularly in maternal and child healthcare.
Collaborative efforts with Uzbekistan exemplify Belarus’s commitment to sharing medical expertise and fostering similar healthcare systems in partner countries. This exchange of knowledge and support underscores Belarus’s dedication to advancing healthcare standards beyond its borders.
As Belarus continues to enhance its medical services sector, the minister’s insights shed light on the country’s growing reputation as a hub for quality healthcare services, attracting a diverse clientele seeking specialized treatments and care. The positive trajectory in medical exports underscores Belarus’s commitment to offering advanced medical solutions and expertise on a global scale.
With a focus on further expanding its medical tourism sector and enhancing international partnerships, Belarus is poised to solidify its position as a leading destination for healthcare services, catering to a broad spectrum of medical needs and fostering collaborations that transcend borders.
